About Us

Agriculture runs deep in the Strong family.

Grant, a true local, was born and raised in the community he still calls home. He is a third-generation rancher, deeply connected to the land. Elizabeth, on the other hand, hails from Montana, where she and her family spent over 25 years working on and managing ranches. Both of us have strong agricultural roots, fostering a profound respect for the land and a shared passion for raising exceptional cattle.

In 2023, significant documents were signed, enabling the Strong family to carry forward the longstanding local legacy of Nevada County Free Range Beef (NCFRB). The merger of their cow/calf ranching operation with NCFRB was a seamless match, ensuring the ongoing provision of top-notch, locally raised grass-fed beef to support the community.

The values of hard work, dedication, and responsible land stewardship have been a cherished part of our family’s heritage, passed down through the generations. We recognize that our success is intimately connected to the well-being of our land and livestock, and we carry this responsibility with utmost seriousness. By upholding the highest standards in animal care and sustainable farming practices, we not only deliver top-quality products but also contribute to the protection and preservation of our environment for the benefit of future generations.

Grant and Elizabeth continue in agriculture through both education and experience:

  • Beef Quality Assurance Certification: Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) is a program that provides systematic information to U.S. beef producers of how good husbandry techniques can be coupled with accepted scientific knowledge to raise cattle under optimum management conditions.
  • California Cattleman’s Association Members
  • Tahoe Cattleman’s Association Members
  • Daily life lessons from cows 🙂

NCFRB is a genuine family affair. Grant and Elizabeth, along with their three kids, are a tight-knit team. When they’re not busy with their “cow stuff,” you might catch them on a baseball field, in a cattle show pen, or even at a rodeo arena. It’s a dynamic mix of family life and ranching adventures.

We’re excited about the opportunity to share our deep passion for ranching with you and to offer our community access to wholesome, locally sourced food.
